Our Faith

Advent Lutheran Church is a congregation of the North American Lutheran Church.

As a Lutheran Church, we believe, teach, and confess that the Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the “pure and clear fountain of Israel, which is the only true norm according to which all teachings and teachers are to be judged” (Formula of Concord, Solid Declaration, 3). We confess that the Holy Scriptures are fully inspired, truthful, and inerrant: they are the written Word of God.

We preach and teach in accordance with the three Ecumenical Creeds and accept the Confessional documents of the Book of Concord as truthful statements of the faith they confess.

We also accept, as a further clarification of our teaching, the Common Confession of Lutheran CORE. We recognize, teach, and support the Church’s historic practice regarding marriage, as it is found in the Holy Scriptures. We are unable to recognize as marriage those unions which do not conform to our Lord’s prescription that, in marriage, a man and a woman are joined and become one flesh, as it has been since the beginning (Mark 10:6-9).

We make Biblical preaching, teaching, and training in faith the chief areas of our common life and worship; all within the parameters of the historic Christian faith.

The NALC Core Values, rooted in our Confession of faith, are:

1. Christ Centered.

2. Mission Driven.

3. Traditionally Grounded.

4. Congregationally Focused.
